We all know them. Loved by young and old alike, they add their quiet, cheerful presence to countless festivities. Colourful and light, they decorate the backdrop of a party, a happy and carefree get-together. But like the reason for their presence, so is their condition. They are not permanent. Their beauty is fragile and fleeting. Some stay up for days, others burst at the slightest touch and fall to the ground like colourful confetti. But eventually they all wither and shrink, losing their voluminous dimension and their tension, turning into a shriveled clump of colour. The balloon. An object that underlines the fragility and transience of each moment.
The concept of the A Fleeting Moment project is based on the desire to capture the beauty of a moment and to transcend (in)visible boundaries. The aim is to create wearable art that encourages dialogue.A glance is not enough to grasp the object. It has to be touched, worn, in order to understand the process of its creation. This is what defines the aesthetics of design. The design is characterised by the contrast between control and liberation.Control is manifested in the construction of the handmade metal skeleton that defines the basic shape of the piece. The concept of freedom is symbolised by the inflation of the balloon within this skeleton. The balloon expands and makes its way out through the cavities of the framework. The aim is to transform the temporary state of the inflated balloon inside the structure into a permanent state. But how does this work?
In the Product Development section, I would like to give you a closer look at this process and take you step by step through the product engineering process.
